LIFE, DEATH & OUR HUMAN FUTURE - A PROVOCATION
Adelaide Conference, April 2022

In April 2022 I was commissioned to create an art film telling the story of a heat wave and dying from heat created as an accompaniment to a conference talk on the climate emergency by Dr Arnagretta Hunter.  Premiered in Adelaide (The Lab.https://www.thelabadl.com.au/about) this is a provocation about catastrophic existential risks, about what it means to talk of humanity ending, and of what glimmers of hope come from confronting these challenges – imagination, creativity, challenge, change and community. A chance for a better world. The central theme is health /climate change and our human future. The film  includes an Epilogue detailing the health impact of extreme on the heart.

Arnagretta Hunter is an Australian physician and cardiologist who thinks, learns and talks about the big challenges and opportunities for our health and wellbeing – our human future. She is responding to a call action as “extreme heat kills more Australians than any other natural disaster” believing that with the inevitability of future heatwaves through climate change Australia must urgently implement a national policy on housing, urban greening to better manage the heat.

The film’ Life, Death and Our Human Future’  by Cambridge based multimedia artist Diana Scarborough uses the soundtrack and music of Kim Cunio and Heather Lee. Dr Arnagretta Hunter who commissioned the film is the voice in the film and she also provided some of the footage.
